During week 2, my peers and I had the opportunity to visit the Globe Theater. This theater is the re-creation of Shakespeare’s original Globe Theater, which he used for his play performances during the 16th century. Our class’s goal for visiting the Globe was to discover the company’s public relations strategies and gain further insight on what the Globe was used for during Shakespeare’s time period versus the theater’s use today. It was so interesting to discover that Shakespeare’s plays continue to be performed at the Globe Theater throughout the summer in London!
After our time at the Globe, a few of my classmates and I stopped by Borough Market for some lunch. The vast diversity and thousands of different foods at the market was so incredible to be a part of. We attempted to try as many foods as possible, but we will definitely need to revisit the market before our time in London is complete. To wrap up the day, my peers and I were able to attend a modern version of Romeo and Juliet at the Barbican Theater. This version incorporated modern costumes, upbeat music, and incredible special effects while keeping the authenticity of Shakespeare’s original play – it was the most creative version I’ve ever seen! Overall, visiting the Globe Theater and having the privilege to attend one of Shakespeare’s plays in the same day was an experience like no other.
