Architecture And Luxury In France

Submitted by Madeline Grabill on the 2019 winter session study abroad program in Paris, France sponsored by the Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies…

This past Saturday, we traveled to Versailles and it was absolutely breathtaking. The architecture and accents of solid gold are spectacular and a true work of art. It was obviously beautiful to look at, but it was also so interesting to learn what all of the different rooms and chambers were used for. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and I learned things about the different kings and Marie Antoinette that were incredibly interesting.

My friends and I also visited Notre Dame and Place du Trocadero. These two visits further exemplified that the architecture in Paris is truly something special. The view from Place du Trocadero was amazing and it was so cool to be able to see the city and the Eiffel Tower.

We also spent a lot of time shopping and exploring different vintage stores that were interesting because they are so different from ones we have at home in the United States. Quite opposite of that, we also spent a lot of time in luxury stores to work on our big project that is due at the end of the program. The way they are set up is unreal and the way people treat you and open doors for you is truly luxurious. My internship with Elie Saab begins tomorrow and I can’t wait to see that side of the fashion industry and learn all about haute couture.
