Denmark: Travel Weeks

Submitted by Mia Eisendorf on the 2018 fall semester DIS program in Copenhagen, Denmark…

The past few weeks have been pretty exciting at DIS. October 7th – 12th was Travel Week 1, during which my core course had our Long Study Tour in Amsterdam. Shortly after, on the week of October 27th – November 3rd, we had Travel Week 2, which I had free. A friend from DIS and I took that week to travel around Italy and explore.

The week in Amsterdam was wonderful. I knew that I wanted to go to Amsterdam, and would have made my own plans to do so, if I weren’t already going with class. Most of our days there consisted of a class activity (lecture, Q&A, etc.),or two, followed by free time to explore on our own. We also got to do a couple of touristy things as part of the class schedule, which I appreciated. There was a canal tour, a visit to the Anne Frank house, an educational walking tour, and a few group meals with everybody. The mixture of class time and free time made me feel like I got the most out of Amsterdam and my week there was well-spent (even though I forgot to visit the TFIOS bench).

For Travel Week 2, we went to Milan, Naples and Rome. At first, it seemed like a lot for one week, but I felt like we had a good amount of time in each place. We spent about a day in a half in Milan and Naples each, and two and a half days in Rome, which was my favorite. There are so many sites to see and different areas to discover, and there’s so much pasta to be eaten.

Now that the breaks are over and we’re all back in Copenhagen with only about a month left, classes are getting a bit more stressful. Final papers are being assigned now and since I don’t have any actual exams, most of my classes end on November 30th or December 7th. I just need to push through all the writing, then I can travel even more!
