Every Sunday there is an outdoor market that spans about 10 blocks in a neighborhood in Buenos Aires called San Telmo. At this market, people can set up their stuff at little booths to sell to everyone walking by. People sell all kinds of things at this market ranging from antiques to souvenirs to art to food. When I arrived at this market for the first time a couple of weeks ago, I was both overwhelmed and in awe. I was overwhelmed at the amount of people both selling and buying. I was in awe at the range of things you could buy at this market and knew that before I would be able to buy anything, I would have to go and look at every booth.
In every direction I looked, I saw someone smiling, someone drinking mate and someone else laughing with friends and family. I realized that this market was not only about the buying and selling of things, but also the coming together to spend time with family and show off what they have created to everyone who walks by. People are able to share their talents, hobbies and culture with the world through this simple market that everyone can participate in whether buying, selling or just strolling through on a Sunday afternoon.
