One of our group’s favorite spots to visit in Trieste was Ponte Rosse, or in English known as the Red Bridge. They call it this because the sunset causes the surrounding buildings to look red at the end of the day. This spot resides over Trieste’s Canal Grande that leads up to an old Roman theater at the end of it. This canal is also the last one remaining in Trieste. Years ago, the edge of the Adriatic Sea would reach all the way up to the edge of the Roman theater, providing a natural background for the plays that took place there. The bridge, canal and theater there all make up one of Trieste’s biggest scenic locations.
