London, England: My Bucket List

Submitted by Meghan Henry on the 2018 winter session program in London, England sponsored by the Department of English and the Department of Theater…

As my time in London comes to a close, I spent my last week trying to check off all of my bucket list London destinations. This past weekend, I finally went on the London Eye in the evening, a truly magical experience that I am so happy to have had the opportunity to do. The Eye was definitely one of my favorite experiences here, and it helped me to overcome my phobia of heights temporarily. I also finally enjoyed afternoon tea at Sketch, one of the Pinterest-esque tearooms found in London. While I wasn’t particularly a fan of the food served or even the tea (shamefully I admit to ordering coffee at afternoon tea), it was a cool experience that I would recommend to anyone. I enjoyed taking part in a tradition that is so embedded in British culture, and find it something that anyone could enjoy even if you aren’t keen on tea, like myself.

In the final week, many of my classmates and I have become sentimental looking back on our experiences here in London, and cannot believe how quickly a month went by and how much we accomplished during our time here. An experience like this is truly once in a lifetime, and we are all coming to terms with this conclusion. I couldn’t be more grateful for the time I spent on the other side of the pond, and I look forward to coming back and journeying to other parts of the world as well very soon!
