Italy: Paderno del Grapa

Submitted by Daniel Tokar on the 2018 winter session program in Italy sponsored by the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics and the Department of English…

The third weekend of our trip was coming up and everyone was deciding where to travel. Cortina, Paris and Amsterdam were considered, but in the end, thirty-five of the thirty-six students on our program decided to go to Milan. I was the 36th, who decided to stay in Paderno del Grappa. I wasn’t excluded from Milan and I have certainly made friends on the program, but I felt that the home of the CIMBA campus had something better to offer.

Throughout the program, we had always visited cities, but now I had the opportunity to explore the Italian countryside. Being the only University of Delaware student around was a bit of a challenge; the only other English-speakers my age were a few resident assistants who had just arrived for the spring semester. The Saturday of that weekend was especially difficult, as the RA’s had gone on a day trip to Venice. However, I don’t regret my decision. The beauty of the Monte del Grappa region was well worth a bit of solitude.
