Italy: Emilia-Romagna

Submitted by Robert Watchilla on the 2018 winter session program in Italy sponsored by the Department of History…

This week my group and I relocated from Firenze to Ferrara. Ferrara is in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy, so it was a little bit colder than Tuscany. We had two day trips this week, both of which were within Emilia-Romagna. The first one was to Ravenna, a city near the coast that had a collection of Byzantine era mosaics. The second was to Modena, the headquarters of both Lamborghini and Maserati cars. In Modena, we got to explore the centro that housed a giant church and a palace, which was the residence of the Renaissance Este family. Overall, I had a good week, and I will be sad to leave Italy, but there is always room in the future to come back and visit.
