Upon arrival to Florence, I don’t believe that I was truly prepared for the breathtaking beauty of the history of the Renaissance that this city has to offer. The first moment when I truly saw what this progam would amount to be was when we first stepped into a church here, because churches in Florence are where you find the past. When we walked inside, I felt the cold of the stone walls and was immediately drawn by the gold intertwining in the walls and the ceiling, the elaborate alters and the candles illuminating pieces of priceless Renaissance art, the likes of which I have never seen before. We have seen many things of a similar caliber in Florence, the home of the art of the Italian Renaissance.
As the shock and the jet-lag wears off, and we start to assimilate into Italian life, I am so excited to see more. So far, the food has been incredible and the sights are unmatched. Buongiorno Firenze! (Good day, Florence!)
