Being in South Africa, our group has seen first hand the disparity of wealth within the country. Our hotel is located in a white collar, developed area while our service learning placements have been located in townships just a short drive away. The first few days after arriving, I felt as though there was not much of a difference between the South Africa we were experiencing and the United States. However, after visiting Leamogetswe Safety Home my perception has definitely changed. Coming home from our placements these past two days to our nice, comfortable hotel has not only shown me that South Africa has much more diversity than I expected in its geography, but how truly grateful I am for the life I have and the opportunity I have to visit a new country in safety and comfort.
