Paris, France: An Authentic Experience

Submitted by Sabrina Romanko on the 2018 winter session study abroad program France sponsored by the Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies…

Now that I’ve adjusted quite well to the time difference and have settled into my accommodation, the fun has definitely begun. One of the most exciting events that occurred in week 2 of my travels here in Paris was the trip to the Dior Exhibition. As a fashion major, this was definitely something to check off my bucket list. I had the opportunity to see hundreds of garments designed by Christian Dior. And to make the experience even more unique, I learned that we got to visit the exhibition on its last weekend in Paris, and it won’t return for another 30 years. This made my experience in Paris feel very authentic, knowing I am in the fashion capital of the world and receiving the best education a fashion student could ask for. In addition to the Dior Exhibition, I really got to explore the city this past week. I’ve come to know the people in the local bakeries and even had to adjust myself to their culture by learning a bit of French in order to order my daily croissant and coffee. Overall, this past week has been very comforting and I’m finding new places and things to do around the city every day!
