Feeling at Home in Spain

Submitted by Alexandra Roberts on the 2018 winter session program in Granada, Spain sponsored by the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures…

After spending a week in Spain, I feel as though I could stay here a lifetime. We began our trip in Madrid and it was very surprising how similar Madrid felt to many of the cities we have in the United States. There were many times when I almost forgot that I was in a completely different country.

After Madrid, we took a day trip to Toledo, a beautiful historic city that sits upon a mountain and is surround by the Tagus River. Not only was the scenery gorgeous, but the people in the city were extremely welcoming. This came as quite a surprise to me because I was worried that we would be seen as an annoyance. However, every single person we met was so genuine and helpful; they were eager to share their culture with us which made our time in Toledo absolutely amazing.
