Exploring Buenos Aires, Argentina

Submitted by Lauren Healy on the 2018 winter session program in Argentina sponsored by the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures…

While we only arrived in Buenos Aires a few days ago, it feels like a lifetime. Any nerves coming in were washed away as our host family welcomed us in with loving arms and made us feel at home. Adjusting to the weather was easy, since at home it is snowing at the moment and here we are enjoying summer. The food is very delicious, but eaten at different times and with different portions than in the United States. Pictured below is our typical breakfast, bread with dulce de leche and coffee.

We were given a day free to ourselves, and used it to explore what we could, and also meet up for some gelato with all the other students. Day 2, we took a bus tour of the city, stopping along the way to visit places like la Casa Rosada (where the president lives), la Recoleta Cemetery, and la Boca Barrio (both pictured below). We finished the day eating some typical cuisine, finally getting a chance to try the renowned carne and chorizo. This program has only just begun and we are so lucky to be in such a great city along with great food and great people. Excited for what’s to come!
