England: Stonehenge and Bath

Submitted by Lindsay Lerner on the 2017 fall semester study abroad program in London, England…

Yesterday, I got to experience Stonehenge, one of the true wonders of the world. To be honest, I was unsure how I would feel when we left London and headed towards Stonehenge. It was early and the sun was barely peeking through the sky when I left my flat. It was already raining and the subway smelt like last night’s beer and stale air. The bus ride took two hours, but then from my window I saw the most beautiful hills and peaks. I saw cows and horses roaming the fields as we continued our descent towards Stonehenge. It wasn’t till we turned the corner and saw the healing rocks and it truly hit me, I was about to experience a once in a lifetime event. Our tour guide told us about this Neolithic mystery. The circle was much bigger than I imagined and walking around it made me think about how such a monument came into existence.

After walking around the circle and taking way too many pictures, our group left and headed to the city of Bath, named after the Roman-built baths.

We toured the ancient baths and tasted the mineral rich healing water. It was not very tasty. In fact, it tasted so bad that we headed to lunch afterwards to get the taste out of our mouths. The pub we found had authentic British food so I tried fish and chips for the first time. I still am not sure how I feel about having a giant fried fish on my plate, but I can tell you it tastes good. Overall, this week was a blast and I cannot wait to see where next week takes me.
