England: Crazy Weather

Submitted by Kathleen Emig on the 2017 summer session program in London, England sponsored by the Department of English…

This past week was just as busy as the previous one and involved some crazy weather. It rained almost every day and I’ve learned that it’s best to always bring a rain jacket or umbrella with you wherever you go.

One notable thing we did was visit Buckingham Palace in Westminster. Unfortunately, we were not able to actually go inside or see the changing of the guards. My classmates and I were determined to get a photo with one of the Queen’s guards, and eventually found this one and got this lovely photo.

This was also one of the few days when it was sunny and warm, so I was able to pull out one of the many tank tops I brought (and not one of the same two sweaters I’ve been wearing).

Later that evening, we went to see the play Girl from the North Country, which was centered around the Great Depression and featured Bob Dylan songs. Halfway through, I learned that one of the main characters played Moaning Myrtle in Harry Potter, which was an exciting fact for me. I wasn’t able to get any photos from the play, but I would definitely recommend seeing it.
