This past weekend was a very big occasion in Granada, the Corpus Christi Holiday celebrations. I was very excited for the Corpus Christi event because the way it is talked about in the city is with nothing, but excitement and pride. It is very interesting to see an entire city practically shut down for an event, everything outside of the main events was just quiet and deserted. I am so grateful to have gotten the opportunity to experience the holiday in Granada.
The procession was beautiful and it was very exciting to be in such a large crowd with so much energy. It is very obvious that the residents and visitors here all really respect the holiday and look forward to the events. I also thought it was very interesting to see the beautiful clothing and how the culture was expressed through what people were wearing. The women wearing beautiful, ornate dresses were obviously full of pride to be showing off their culture.
Another part of the the Corpus Christi Holiday celebrations included a fair. The fair grounds were spectacular, especially the opening gate with all the lights. The lights of the rides and the music of the fair just gave the entire city a wonderful sense of celebration and excitement. This fair reminded me of home and gave me a sense of belonging since there are similar fairs and carnivals near my home in Delaware.
The fair had such an exciting atmosphere and it was great as a visitor to be in such a fund and inviting environment. If you are ever in Spain during this holiday, you have to make the trip to Granada for this amazing experience!!
