Today we went into the town of Chaypa, which is located at almost 14,000 feet. When we arrived, we were greeted immediately by a 12 year old boy named Juan. He displayed such joy, his warm words and his hug hello quickly made us feel welcomed. Soon after arriving, we began to interact with the children of the community along with the women that were there also. It was an incredible experience; the people were incredible. Not only were we lucky enough to spend the day with this community, but we were also able to provide advice on environmental measures, personal health and hygiene, and general health information deemed beneficial. Not to mention, the soccer game that was played and the parachute games were an experience of a lifetime, their smiles are something I hope to never forget. Something that I’ve noticed that really differs from the U.S. is that every single person that I have interacted with during my time in Peru, has been welcoming and has greeted me with a smile despite me just visiting here.
