Spain: A Panoramic View

Submitted by Hannah Carter-Prendergast on the 2017 spring semester program in Barcelona, Spain…

From the tourist crazed boulevard known as Las Ramblas, to the cobblestone alleyways that make up the Gothic Quarter, Barcelona is a beautiful city like no other. Within the first week of starting my journey abroad, I was convinced I had discovered the best view of Barcelona. After hiking on top of Montserrat for the day and looking down at the vast beauty of the city, I didn’t think it could get much better. I was wrong. Weeks later, my friend mentioned El Bunker and said the views were supposed to be incredible. That weekend, my friends and I mapped out our metro journey to the district of El Carmel, where we transferred onto a bus that drove us up Rovira Hill. After a short hike, we arrived at our final destination and I was in absolute awe. On top of an old air raid civil war bunker, people gathered as they took in the breathtaking, panoramic view of the city’s marvels.

From the defined streets of Eixample to the aqua waters of the Mediterranean Sea, the views are absolutely breathtaking. As one of Barcelona’s many hidden gems, the seclusion of El Bunker from the rest of the city’s tourist packed attractions is a blissful experience in itself. Though the crowd increases in size during the day and on weekends, a feeling of serenity remains present throughout. Day or night, solo or with friends, El Bunker is the perfect place to take a step back, breathe in the fresh air and appreciate the beauty of the world that surrounds us.
