Quiet Vienna, Austria

Submitted by Haley Cherrix on the 2017 winter session program in Austria and Hungary sponsored by the College of Education and Human Development…

I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous with this being the first time traveling abroad without family accompanying me. I have to say though, this first week in Vienna has been amazing and unforgettable.

The first big cultural difference I noticed after stepping off the plane into the Vienna airport was the noise levels. Public places in the States tend to be noisy when filled with many people where as public places tend to be quieter and more soft spoken here. (I tend to remind myself daily to speak softly!)

Vienna is a beautiful city with new places to see everyday. Learning about the Hapsburgs family and visiting their winter and summer palaces has been the highlight of my program  thus far. Every where you look there are beautiful lights all around the streets or amazing artwork on the outside of buildings. Let’s just say, there is no possible chance you could ever get bored here!

Our group heads off to Budapest next and I can’t wait to see what is in store for us there!
