London Versus Paris

Submitted by Marina Roos on the 2017 winter session program in London, England sponsored by the Department of English and the Department of Theatre…

This past weekend, three girls and myself traveled to Paris. I was shocked by how easy it is to travel from country to country. After purchasing a cheap plane ticket, we were off to the airport and took a forty-minute flight and landed in Paris. We were all a little nervous about traveling to France because none of us spoke any French nor had we been to France before. Lucky for us, almost everyone spoke some English and we were able to communicate very well. It was cool to go to Paris for the weekend because it is so different from London. Everyone moves a lot slower in Paris and people take their time doing everything, especially eating dinner. The sun also set later in Paris than in London so our day seemed longer. People say that the French don’t like Americans or that they are rude, but everyone was very friendly and willing to help us get around. Since we only had one full day in Paris, we had to see all of the attractions that we could, but we didn’t have a bus pass yet we were able to walk everywhere. The Eiffel Tower was just ten minutes away from our airbnb, which was incredible. Paris was so much fun, but I’m glad I’m studying in London because I feel like there is so much more going on in London than in Paris.
