After 3 hours in an airport, 6 hours in an airplane, and 2 hours in a taxi, I safely arrived to my hotel in London. I was excited, hungry, tired and lost. As a Jersey Girl who has absolutely no city-slicker in her, I was a bit overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of London. Cars were driving on the wrong side of the road, pedestrians were walking on the wrong side of the sidewalk and the fear of figuring out how the Tube works was looming over my head.
My first full day in London started bright and early with an adventure on the Tube. It was time to “let go of the edge of the pool” as my program director, Professor Bartoo, always says. I had to figure out how to travel like the locals do. I was truly shocked to see how easy it was to ride the Tube. The signs were clear, the stations were clean and the maps were abundant. My worries were beginning to melt away.
Later that day, I watched the city fly by me from the top of a double-decker bus. With the wind in my hair and a camera in my hand, I found myself falling in love with this beautiful city. The people are polite and welcoming, the transportation is simple and helpful and the sites are breathtaking and iconic. After my first week in London, I can truly say that Eye am in love.
