Italy: Getting Lost in Rome

Submitted by Allison Andreola on the 2017 spring semester program in Rome, Italy…

Ciao from Rome! I’m loving this city already. Every building is so old and full of history and the neighborhood we go to school in, Trastevere, is extra beautiful. Living here has been a big change for me. I come from a small rural town and UD is very suburban, so living in a big city is new for me. One thing that has taken some getting used to is the public transportation system. There is a tram that runs from our apartment all through the city. I’ve already gotten off at the wrong stop a few times and gotten pretty lost. However, I’ve found that getting lost is the best way to explore the neighborhood! Some friends and I spent almost an hour looking for one of our academic buildings, but in the process, got to explore the beautiful cobblestone streets and alleyways of Trastevere, discovering a plethora of pizza places and gelato shops, and dodging many mopeds and Fiats in the process. I’m sure I’ll be getting lost again, and I am excited to see what else there is to discover.
