Submitted by Andrew Jackson on the 2017 winter session program in Leipzig, Germany sponsored by the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures…
Another week has gone by and I’m getting a little bit more accustomed to the routine here. It’s still hard being so far away from everything I’m used to, but I’d like to think I’m getting assimilated to the culture here in Germany. Going to class every day is making the time fly by even faster than before… I know it’s going to be time to come home before I even know it. We split up into small groups and went on a “Stadterkundung” (city discovery). It was really interesting to explore a section of the city that I hadn’t yet seen. This city is so old and full of history… it really is incredible. I’ve gotten to know my classmates a bit as well. Meeting people from other countries is something I had not really experienced at this level before, and it’s very interesting to compare and contrast experiences with them (and to speak with them in German, of course!) Today, we went to the Völkerschlachtdenkmal, which is a huge monument to a battle fought in the Napoleonic Wars. It was breathtaking, to say the least! Can’t wait to see what else Leipzig has in store.
