If I had to describe London in one word it would be “Glorious.” In the five days I’ve spent in London so far, my experiences have not been short of historical. Just two days ago, my group and I ventured to the Tower of London, the most visited tourist attraction in the area. It was here, at this 1,000 year old palace, that I was truly able to appreciate and grasp the historical significance of the site. Over the years, the Tower has served as a royal mint, menagerie, record office, armory, and royal residence. To Londoners, the Tower of London is far more than an attraction, it is a living symbol of a critical part of British History. The Tower of London embodies all that London was and is. Understanding and appreciating the historical significance of the Tower of London has not only increased my awareness of British History, but has enabled me to better understand how 1,000 years of history influences and shapes British society today.
