Asking for Directions in Italy

Submitted by Jacob Verbanas on the 2017 winter session program in Italy sponsored by the Department of Art…

We took a trip to San Gimignano, the City of Beautiful Towers. I broke off from the group at one point to explore by myself and I got lost. I met an old lady who did not speak any English, but I asked her where the Duomo was. I tried walking the other direction of which she told me and she said not to and pointed in the opposite direction. She ended up walking me to the Duomo. It was nice trying to talk to her in Italian. She was trying to talk to me too with simple words and she made some gestures to help me understand. When we reached the Duomo, I gave her a hug and thanked her for her help. She was such a nice person and I keep running into more and more of them.
