Above and Below in Nerja, Spain

Submitted by Evelyn Lopez-Martinez on the 2016 spring semester program in Granada, Spain…

Although it was a fairly cloudy afternoon in Nerja, Spain, the countless amount of mountains and the blue Mediterranean Sea were no less beautiful. This is one of the views from el Balcon de Europa (Europe’s Balcony). From this point, I did not realize at first that you can see the different beaches nearby. Nerja is fairly small and it takes only a few minutes to get to Calahonda, Carabeo, Carabello or Burriana Beach. Each beach was unique and Burriana was the largest one of them all.Nerja Europe's Balcony Evelyn Lopez-Martinez 16S Granada, Spain smLa cueva de Nerja (Nerja Cave) made me feel as though I was in the scene of a childhood dinosaur movie. Inside, I couldn’t help to reflect on how amazing mother nature is, how simple rocks can look so fascinating and how was it possible that such a cave could be created.  The temperature outside was much cooler than the one inside. The pass I purchased only allowed me to see 1/3 of the cave. I can’t imagine what the rest of the cave looks like.Nerja Cave Evelyn Lopez-Martinez 16S Granada, Spain sm
