Submitted by Robert Ley on the 2015 spring semester DIS (Denmark’s International Study Program) program in Copenhagen, Denmark…
Cycling is a an important means of transportation among Danes, and it is fitting considering their environment friendly attitude. Any visitor to Copenhagen would surely be surprised at the prevalence of bicycles throughout the city.
In fact, 50% of Danes commute to work or school this way. The use of bikes even shapes the cityscape of Copenhagen, since everywhere bicyclists have their own lane and even stoplights. What further surprised me about all of the cyclists was the unique kinds of bikes they were riding. Many bikes have barrows for storage.
Other bikes have carriages for small children.
Throughout my semester, I have taken pictures of idle bikes that I found interesting. If you were to visit Copenhagen, you would surely run into many of these.
