Andalucía Day in Malaga, Spain

Submitted by Evelyn Lopez-Martinez on the 2016 spring semester program in Granada, Spain…

After finding out that Granada was going to have a couple of days of cold and rainy weather and then watching the news about the weather in other locations, I decided to take advantage of the opportunity given to me the night before. Less then two hours away from where I live, Málaga, Spain was the perfect place to escape to. Of course it wasn’t summer weather, but it sure was nicer than that of Granada’s. Just looking around, Málaga captured my heart, it was completely stunning. The blue water was so clear that I was able to see a countless amount of grey fish by the coast. The Cathedral was one of the main attractions view able throughout the entire city. Along the coast, many locations remained opened even though it was a Sunday. Right away, I was able to tell that it was one of Spain’s tourist areas.

It only made sense to stay in Andalucía on the Day of Andalucía. While at the top of the Alcazaba in Málaga, I was able to witness part of the festivities for that day. Many locals along with travelers from all around the world gathered around to listen to traditional music, watch dances and enjoy the environment. Others enjoyed tapas and sat around watching those who walked by. The Alcazaba and other attractions were free to enter as part of the special day. Malaga view Evelyn Lopez-Martinez 16S Granada, Spain sm
