Submitted by Zachary Davis on the 2016 winter session program in London, England sponsored by the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice…
This third week in London has been a very busy one. During the week we had class and learned about the criminal justice system and we took a police walking tour. Due to my interest in going into law enforcement, I thought this walking tour was very informative and interesting and to be honest all of the excursions we have done on this program are fascinating and interconnected. We are not used to having so much history in our country back in America, so to come here and see all of the rich history of this country is impressive. The architecture here is impressive to say the least and it really is something you have to come see for yourselves.
During the long weekend we were given, five of us went to Paris. Paris was such a cool experience and we actually ran into another study abroad group from UD while we were in Paris. While in Paris, we went to Notre Dame, Musee D’Orsay, Eiffel Tower, Versailles, the Louvre and the catacombs. Going to Paris was definitely on my bucket list and was so easy to do since it is just a short plane ride from London. Being in Paris really helped to broaden my experience here. Going to Paris with the language barrier and just experiencing the city made me glad that I am studying in London. It was great to see Paris and all, but London just appears to offer more to do and it is much simpler to integrate into the culture than in Paris. I am so glad that I finally decided to study abroad. Living in London for a month, studying abroad really helps to teach you and give you the experience of being completely responsible for yourself. It has been one of the best experiences, I have ever had. Knowing that we’re into our last week of the program has saddened us all. Thinking about going home and not spending so much time with everyone who you became so close with is a weird feeling. We felt some of this in Paris when it was just a few of us and we would go places and then wonder where the rest of the group was. I think some of us will stay close friends even after we return back home and get back into our routines.
