Great Restaurant in Rome, Italy

Submitted by Rachel Zucker on the 2016 winter session program in Italy sponsored by the Department of Philosophy…

I write this from the bus to Sorrento!  Sadly, our time in Rome has passed, but it’s safe to say we have all enjoyed every minute of it!  We were able to see the Pope 3 times, visit the biggest synagogue and the Jewish Ghetto, explore ruins, and of course, eat the best food!  Two days ago, we attended the Papal Audience and some of us had belongings blessed by the Pope.  We were also able to go to the very top of St. Peter’s Basilica – the view was absolutely incredible.  Worth every one of the 551 stairs it took to get to the top.

The week wouldn’t have been complete without our favorite restaurant – Bella Carne.  This was a kosher Jewish-Italian restaurant in the Jewish Ghetto.  Some of our group dined there up to 3 times within 36 hours it was SO GOOD!  I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Roma.  We took pictures with the owner and the staff the last time we went there, we were able to speak to them with a little English, a little Italian, and a little Hebrew, which was very cool.
