London Sociology

Submitted by Kelcie Duesler on the 2015 winter session program in London sponsored by the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice…

During the second week of our trip, you could tell how comfortable everyone was becoming, with each other and the city. In the beginning of the week, a group of us planned a separate excursion and were able to visit the Harry Potter Studios. The trip was fun and also gave us a change to see what is outside of central London!

During the past week, we had multiple guest speakers who presented us with first hand knowledge of the healthcare system in England. Both guest speakers were very knowledgeable and helped give us a better understanding of how their policies are implemented. These lectures were exceptionally helpful because we have a project about country specific healthcare systems due soon.

My favorite part of this week was when we went to Oxford. Oxford is an extremely beautiful school and I was in awe of the campus. Even as someone who does not have much knowledge of architecture or design, you cannot help, but be amazed at the campus buildings and interior! We had a walking tour where we learned information and history about the school as we walked through the campus. Our tour guide was insightful and emitted Oxford pride, it was nice to see how much the school meant to its current students, staff and alumni.
