Fun After Midterms in Spain

Submitted by Ana Lopez Magana on the 2014 spring semester study abroad program in Granada, Spain…

This week was midterms week, so it was filled with a lot of studying.  All of my exams were easy. Now is the time to relax and enjoy the nice weather. Spring arrived on Friday, March 21st. Here in Granada, the people welcome the spring season with a 3 day celebration that started Friday and ended Sunday. A couple of my classmates and I attended the huge party on Friday. It was pretty fun and I had good time with everyone. I love how people here are always celebrating things.

To keep my weekend going, on Saturday, I attended a basketball game. One of my classmates plays with the Granada national women’s basketball team. They played semi-finals against the Cadiz’s basketball team. Luckily, our girls won. It was a pretty easy game for our team. The Cadiz’s team gave them a fight, but the Granada team gave them an even better fight. Next week they are playing them again and if they win they are going to the finals.

On Sunday, I went to the movies with a couple of friends. Yes, to the movies. The movie tickets here in Granada cost around 6 Euros. We watched the must-see movie “Ocho apellidos vascos”. Great movie!! It was a great experience. If you don’t know much about the Spanish culture then it might not be as easy to make sense of it. Now and then our Spanish friend had to explain a couple things because we had no clue of what was going on, but I still had a great time.
