Weekend in London

Submitted by Haley Cohen on the 2014 spring semester study abroad program in London, England…

This past weekend, we stayed in London, which was a nice change compared to our previous weekends traveling throughout Europe. We finally had some more time to explore the city we’ve been living in. It’s been much more difficult than I expected to find the time to explore London with classes and work consuming the majority of our time so it was really nice to finally have the chance to do so. Even though we were dying to go back to our favorite market, Borough Market, we opted to visit Portobello Market instead. We walked through the streets admiring all the shops and grabbed a quick bite to eat at one of the falafel stands!  Then we headed to high street Kensington and shopped some more. Unfortunately, we had to do a lot of work this past weekend and week because we wanted to finish everything before our swiftly approaching spring break adventure! We did find the time to visit Kensington Palace though and walk through the gardens which was really beautiful! I also went on a field trip in my Ethics in the Media class to The Daily Telegraph newspaper which was really cool! It’s very interesting to learn about how different British media is compared to America’s, especially comparing the content. British media is definitely not as filtered as I am accustomed to back in the States and I’ve definitely seen some shocking articles, commercials, and images to say the least!  I also went to a see a show for my theatre class and the legendary Anna Wintour, the editor in chief of Vogue, was there as well as the famous British actor Benedict Cumberland! I couldn’t believe they were in the same theatre as me! It was amazing and I even got a picture with Anna! The rest of the week, I spent all of my time finishing my midterm papers and preparing for our upcoming trip to Venice, Florence, and Barcelona which I am beyond excited for!
