Andalucía

I can’t believe that it’s March already. I have been here in Granada for almost two months now. I can definitely say that I have been enjoying my stay. Classes are going well. It has been raining a lot, but I can’t complain. I prefer rain to snow.  I’m so happy to be here in Granada!

This past Friday, February 28 was the day of Andalusia, which marks the anniversary of a referendum held on February 28, 1980 that made Andalusia an autonomous community of Spain.  The holiday is only celebrated in the region of Andalusia. All of the major businesses and schools close on this day. Most people celebrate by spending time with their families and friends. I was told my host Mom that there were going to be events held and that usually there are  groups of people dancing flamenco in front of the Ayuntamiento (town hall); however, that was not the case. I didn’t see any activities that were out of the ordinary. Although, it was nice to just go out for a walk around the city to enjoy the nice weather.
