Salamanca, Spain

Submitted by Kylie Cleesattel on the 2013 summer session study abroad program in Salamanca, Spain sponsored by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures…

This is the last week that we have in Salamanca. Overall, this experience has been an unforgettable one and one that I will cherish for the rest of my life. This week is full of last minute things that I have been wanting to in the city and have not taken advantage of yet. The other day, we went down to the Río Tormes, the river that marks the city limit of Salamanca, and took paddle boats out on the river. It was so much fun (and a great workout!). From the river, you can see the cathedral, which has some of the most beautiful architecture I have ever seen.

In addition to paddle boating, we also took a trip to the public pool to see how those work here. It was very bizarre as  there were people sprawled out all along the grass, just hanging out and having a good time. It only cost 3 Euro to get in- these are the kinds of things I am going to miss when I return to the United States. We also had the opportunity to tour a garden in which one of the pieces of literature that we read took place. It was beautiful and there were little locks all over the garden, which were put there by couples to represent eternal love. All of the small excursions that we had this week will only add to the memories that I have made along this program. I can’t believe that we return to the U.S. so soon! Although I am sad to go, the U.S. will always be my home and I am excited to see my friends and family again. All in all, it has been a very successful program!
