Overlooking Paris

Submitted by Colleen Kelly on the 2013 winter session program in Paris, France sponsored by the Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies…

During week 3 we learned our last technique for dying a scarf. This one was called scrunching and involved tying it up with rubber bands. All three of my scarves came out beautiful and two of them are going to make wonderful and unique gifts for my Mom and Grandma.

I had a midterm lunch with my teacher and a small group of the girls where we discussed our final paper and potential topics, current events in the fashion industry, and our future goals for ourselves. We got a sunny day, which is rare and my roommate and I took at advantage of it and went up to the Sacre Coeur church on the top of a hill that overlooks all of Paris. The view was unbelievable! We walked around that area for a while; it was very cute. We got the chance to work as a dresser backstage at the Rick Owens menswear fashion show. It was very exciting. I also got an internship working in the Rick Owens showroom this week as a greeter and waitress. I started that yesterday. They are long and tiring days, but it is a great experience, and I am learning a lot and meeting a lot of interesting people.
