This past weekend, the group went to the Loire Valley to visit some castles. It was so much fun! We were lucky enough to visit four of the most popular castles during our visit. On Friday, we visited the “Château de Chambord,” which includes a staircase that was designed by Leonardo de Vinci. (The first photo captures this staircase, and the second photo captures the outside view of the castle.) Later on Friday, we visited Leonardo de Vinci’s house, and where he is buried.
On Saturday, we visited the “Château d’Azay le Rideau.” This was pretty big, and beautiful. I found it interesting because there were all of these open windows throughout the castle. We had a guide at this castle which was helped us to better understand the history. Apparently, no one actually lived at this castle. It was used more for short hunting stays. We also visited the “Château de Chenonceau.” This was my favorite castle of the trip. It had the most beautiful gardens. I also liked that this castle wasn’t excessively huge so that it was not overwhelming. I asked our guide why the castle’s interior was full of real flowers. (I was thinking to myself how expensive that would be.) She told us that the Loire Valley is known for its flowers because of the moist air. The castles are actually able to have separate cutting gardens. (The last two photos are from this castle.)
I’m so happy that I was able to explore some castles while I’m in France. Also, as much as I love Paris, it’s so nice to escape the hustle and bustle of things….and relax in the countryside for a few days.
