Making Mozzarella

Submitted by Alyssa Southard on the 2012 summer session program in Italy sponsored by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures…

During our free weekend, we explored the area around Sorrento. On the first day, we went to Ischia, a beautiful island off the coast with natural saunas. There, we  saw a castle and enjoyed some time on the beach. The second day, we all went snorkeling. The crystal clear water made everything so beautiful, and we even swam in a cove called I bagni della Regina Giovanna. That same day, Italy played in a soccer game and they beat England, and it was crazy to see all of the cheering fans and vespas flying down the roads with flags and honking. The remainder of the week we spent our time attending class and we often went to the beach afterwards. One day though, we went to the mozzarella factory to learn how it was made and I actually braided some fresh mozzarella. It was delicious. Ciao!
