Last weekend, my flatmates and I took a train to Oxford to see the famed University and historic city. Oxford was the quintessential English city with golden honey colored lime stone buildings. The streets were all cobble stone, with brightly painted store fronts lining the winding footpaths. Rustic taverns and book stores gave the town a feeling of old academia. We took a “hop-on hop-off” bus tour of the city and then walked back to the parts that we found most interesting. We had lunch at the famous King’s Arms Tavern and looked through Alice’s shop, where many versions of Alice in Wonderland have originated. Although my rankings change by the day, I have decided that Oxford may be my favorite city in England. From the Botanic Gardens to Christ’s Church, everything was dazzlingly beautiful and historic. I could have spent days there, and found myself feeling quite envious of the perfectly dressed students who call the university home.
