One Class Down, 4 Amazing Months to Go

Submitted by Caitlin Baker on the 2012 spring semester program in Granada, Spain…

This past week our group stayed pretty local as we worked to finish up our intensive January course. We took our final on Friday and it felt awesome to have a bit of freedom, but it was also amazing to think about that we have already been here for three weeks and have completed our first course!

As we begin a new month, it is another reminder of how fleeting our time is here and how important it is to enjoy each day. Having a few days off from class, has allowed us to get out and about in the city and explore more of the many shops, restaurants, cafes, and other local treasures that surround us. On Saturday, a bunch of us walked to the local markets where they sell almost everything you can think of at cheap prices. The haggling can get intense though! A few of us also went to a pastelería (basically a cafe and dessert shop) and tried piononos, a dessert that is very typical of Granada. Now we are gearing up to take our first weekend trip out of Granada up to Madrid, the capital of Spain, and Toledo, a smaller city outside of Madrid. We are all looking forward to exploring another part of Spain!
