Holocaust Exhibit at the Imperial War Museum

Submitted by Sara Feldman on the 2012 spring semester program in London, England…

These past couple of days have been filled with field trips to museums. I’ve visited the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Museum of London, the Wallace Collection, and the Imperial War Museum. Of all these sites,  the Imperial War Museum’s Holocaust Exhibit has really stood out in my mind. Previously, I had learned about the Holocaust both from public school and Hebrew school. I know all the facts, figures, and numbers, but somehow this exhibit touched a new place in my heart. The exhibit started by showcasing the lives of Jewish people right before Adolph Hitler was coming to power. As it progressed, you learned about the Ghettos and the Concentration Camps. In each section, there were videos of Holocaust survivors telling their stories. I had to choke back my tears because I was imaging if my grandmother’s grandfather had never come to the United States and what  my family may have gone through. Finally, it was shocking to see how even after the survivors were freed from the camps their lives were  never whole. I would definitely recommend if you are ever in London, that you check out the Holocaust Exhibit!
