On Tuesday, October 9, Dan Warner (Delaware Geological Survey) and Nicole Minni (School of Public Policy and Administration) will be giving presentations at Faculty Commons from 10-11:30. UD GIS group members will receive a Zoom link for video conferencing in a calendar invite. Presentation Descriptions:

Dan will be presenting on his work where he has taken global 1-km remote sensing products and used them to model global spatial distributions of soil CO2 emissions using machine learning techniques. This presentation is showing a novel application of a statistical technique,  with some discussion fo the ecological significance of the findings.

Nicole will be presenting a story map that will showcase two specific communities in Delaware – the Bridgeville and Lewes zipcodes – and how these areas are addressing the needs of their older adult populations by considering aging-friendly strategies. The story map will highlight best practices in several areas of interest which influence the health and overall well-being of residents in a naturally occurring retirement community. Specific housing models, transportation and multi-modal options, community resources, green spaces, access to health care services, and land use decision making all play a role in better addressing the needs of our aging population and those with disabilities.Through Bridgeville’s and Lewes’s efforts, we hope other Delaware communities consider implementing some fo the essential features of aging friendly communities.
