  1. PURPOSETo ensure local exhaust ventilation equipment is designed and installed in accordance with standards and recommended practices for the control of hazardous materials.
  2. POLICY
    1. Local exhaust ventilation equipment includes, but is not limited to, the following:
      Laboratory fume hoods Dust collectors
      Biological safety cabinets Welding hoods
      Canopy hoods Electrostatic Precipitators
      Bench hoods Paint booths
      Downdraft hoods Scrubbers
      Slot hoods Laminar Flow cabinets
    2. All construction plans and/or requisitions for new local exhaust ventilation equipment shall require the written approval of the Department of Environmental Health and Safety and Facilities.
    3. All material modifications to existing local exhaust ventilation equipment shall require the written approval of the Director, Department of Environmental Health and Safety and Facilities.
    4. Department of Environmental Health and Safety approval of plans, requisitions or modifications of local exhaust ventilation equipment shall be based on standards and recommended practices for the control of hazardous materials.
    5. The department responsible for the installation (generally, Facilities Planning and Construction or Facilities Operations and Maintenance) shall ensure that the local exhaust ventilation equipment is installed in accordance with the approved plan.
