We started off the morning with an early breakfast and a van ride up Corcovado to see one of the seven wonders of the world, Christ the Redeemer. The van ride twisted and turned as well as rattled due to the tile street. At the top we got out of the van to be greeted with another van ride. When we reached the top we were first greeted with fantastic views of Rio from above and in awe of the sheer size of the Christo Redentor statue. As we began to leave, fog covered the view of the city and drifted across the statue. On the way back we were stopped at a police checkpoint and the van was searched. After class a few people went to the Olympic Stadium, while others opted for another beach day, this time at Leblon.
The statue felt very special, but the large crowd felt distracting in the moment. When viewing the statue from around the city, it looks more peaceful and isolated. Seeing the statue up close and its large size was very cool, details like the heart on his chest were revealed for the first time.
