Hello all from the Uakari Lodge! Today we departed Manaus at 8am for Tefe where we then took a bus and a boat to arrive at the lodge, our home for the next week. Tefe was a very busy and vibrant city with many of their locals getting around by motorcycles. The staff was extremely welcoming at the lodge and were interested in learning about us. For both lunch and dinner they served fresh produce, some which was grown right from the Amazonian communities. Our two activities consisted of a guided hike through the Amazon rainforest. Despite the swarming mosquitos, we were in awe from the abundance of massive trees and vast wildlife. We even saw a dolphin jump out of the water! After the hike we continued on with a guided river tour and saw more unique birds, monkeys, and one “caiman” (crocodile) peaking its nose out of the water. Overall, our first full day in the Amazon was fun, breathtaking, and memorable.
Thanks,
Meghan and Hannah
