Health Team

Our goal at the EWB-UD Health Team is to improve healthcare access and quality in underserved communities through sustainable, human-centered engineering. We aim to design affordable and practical medical technologies that address real-world challenges while being culturally appropriate and community-driven. By bridging the gap between engineering and medicine, we empower students to apply their technical skills toward meaningful global impact. Through collaboration, research, and long-term partnerships, we strive to create lasting solutions that strengthen healthcare systems and promote resilient, healthy communities worldwide.

Our Work So Far

The EWB-UD Health Team was founded over the Summer of 2025 with the goal of developing a medical device for an underserviced international community. Over the summer, our team developed needfinding surveys with the help of University of Delaware staff and partners globally. The Water Team interviewed the staff of and community around two clinics in Likangala and Khanda, Malawi, and collected videos and surveys illustrating the conditions in these health centers.
Currently, as of Fall 2025, our team has started to analyze the collected survey and interview data. This Fall semester, we plan to design a product that would be beneficial to these clinics’ functionalities, and develop a prototype by the end of our first year.

Because our project is so new, we have the unique opportunity to shape this project and establish what direction we want to take this research. If you are interested in the EWB Health Team, please contact Micah Stoogenke (mstoo@udel.edu) and Benjamin Abraham (benjabra@udel.edu).
