Design Methodology: Overview

Overview:

[Remember the overview page within each learning module is meant to do just that – give you a summary, to-do-list or sense of what you are expected to accomplish by the end of this unit/module. There are more detailed pages with links for the Readings, Assignments, etc. as you move through the module.]

 Learning Objectives:

  1. By applying the ABCD’s of objectives, participants will re-examine their existing goals and objectives or develop new ones for their course or program.
  2. Participants will gain experience with the Assignments tool by submitting their completed goals and objectives as an attachment and reflecting on the posting in the Goals and Objectives topic by due date.
  3. Participants will peer review each other’s work using tools available in Canvas.

  1. Understanding by Design,Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe, Chapter 1 (eBook version is no longer available from the library. There are two copies of the book available at the library. You can read Vanderbilt’s summary below. On the Readings page, I have linked to two short Youtube videos of Wiggins talking about the process.)

Assignments:

  1. Write your learning goals and objectives for your course/program. Create an assessment strategy.
  2. Review your assessment strategy, learning outcomes and goals with your partner in the cohort – share feedback, suggestions, ideas prior to your consultation with ATS.  Suggest trying a web conference in Canvas.
  3. Schedule consultation with staff to discuss the design of your project and any specific needs or interests you have.  Create a project plan (includes timeline) for specific tasks that need to be completed. (Design)

Evaluation criteria:

Peer review of learning goals, outcomes.
