The DLEO course is made up of eight learning modules. Whether it is taught over 7 weeks, a full fall or spring semester, or an abbreviated version, the course content is the same. What varies is the amount of time participants have to complete each assignment. The first implementation of the course was delivered over a summer 7 week session.
The Learning Modules
- Orientation – Start Here
- The Online Learning Environment
- Design Methodology
- Content Strategy
- Mapping Communication and Collaboration Activities to Tools
- The Learning Module
- Implementation: Delivering Your Course Online
- Evaluation: Your Presentation, Rubrics
- Finishing Up (post-DLEO module)
The final Finishing Up module takes place later, usually about 3 months after the course ends. Faculty are continuing to create content for their courses over these months and we find it helpful to reunite the group back to help tackle any issues they have encountered, to share what they have learned and to get them to conduct a self-evaluation of their courses using something like the Quality Matter’s Rubric or other rubrics we reviewed in Module 8. We also ask the participants to engage in an Introspective assignment revisiting their original teaching philosophy and reflection from their opening assignment.
