Summary
The Gerard J. Mangone Climate Change Science and Policy Hub Welcomes the Climate Fellows!
The Climate Fellows are a new Graduate Student Organization (GSO) at UD committed to connecting graduate students with a passion for climate change research, education, and activism to one and other both academically, professionally, and socially. The Fellows work to promote climate-forward initiatives on UD’s campus and the local community in coordination with the Climate Change Science & Policy Hub. As an organization, we meet approximately once per month during each semester to discuss fellowship and funding opportunities, professional development, mentorship, and opportunities for community outreach and activism. All currently enrolled graduate students and post-doctoral fellows at UD are invited to participate so long as they have an interest in climate change topics. Current members have backgrounds in trauma therapy, coral reef management, power sector engineering, and more. The diversity of the Fellows fosters our rich discussions regarding climate change issues and community engagement, and we welcome graduate students from all backgrounds to attend our meetings.
The Fellows began meeting as an official GSO in Fall, 2023. During the fall, we hosted a board game event that focused on climate change games. This spring semester, we plan to host a variety of events, including an introductory workshop regarding how to use the statistics program R and an Earth Day Clothing Swap organized in conjunction with the Climate Hub. In the past, our members have attended climate-related events like the Citizens’ Climate Lobby conference in Washington, D.C. The Fellows aim to coordinate events that we and other graduate students would be interested in attending. Any member is welcome to suggest an event or opportunity during a general meeting.
To join the Climate Fellows, please join us at one of our regular meetings or fill out our “Join the Fellows” form available here. Our first meeting of Spring 2024 will be held on Thursday, Feb 22, from 5:30-7pm. The meetings take place in person In Robinson Hall, Room 105. A virtual option is available if desired. If you can only attend a portion of the meeting, please feel free to do so. You may contact the Climate Fellows President, Emma, at ekorein@udel.edu with questions or to request a zoom link for attendance. You can also find the Climate Fellows on Instagram @udclimatefellows.
