A couple of weeks ago, Dr. Leathers spoke with Climate Scholars about climate change in Delaware. Dr. Leathers is a Delaware State Climatologist and co-director of the Delaware Environmental Observing System. He also teaches classes such as GEOG220 (Meteorology), which I’m taking this semester.

To understand our changing world, we should start by knowing what’s happening in our local area. Dr. Leathers presented some key statistics to know when it comes to climate change right here in Delaware. Here are two important facts:

  • Average temperatures in DE have risen more than 3°F since the beginning of the 20th century.
  • Average precipitation in DE has increased about 3.6 inches since the beginning of the 20th century.

In the GEOG220 Honors Course, we get to learn about climatology and climate change. I look forward to understanding more about climate and weather in GEOG220 this semester. After all, they both impact our lives every day!
